Dean of Nursing

About the Role

Responsible for the site supervision, development, planning, coordination, organization, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing program activities. This role oversees all aspects of the program, ensuring compliance, quality instruction, and effective liaison between the college, clinical sites, faculty, and students.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, manage, update, and evaluate all aspects of the RN program, including budget, faculty and staff, clinical site liaison, curriculum development, and program compliance with Board rules and regulations.
• Prepare data and written materials for state and Board requirements, such as reports, proposals, self-studies, surveys, and site visits.
• Ensure all student and faculty records are initiated and maintained, including academic status and qualifications documentation.
• Assist in identifying and obtaining outside resources for the nursing program.
• Develop and implement program policies and procedures, and organize program committees.
• Oversee the admission process, orientation, and articulation agreements with nearby colleges for course transfers.
• Serve as a liaison between the community and the college.
• Develop and maintain educational partnerships and contracts with clinical sites.
• Perform and/or delegate clinical site evaluations, ensuring safety, adequate staffing, and alignment with clinical objectives.
• Coordinate clinical rotations, including faculty assignments, dates, times, and objectives, and submit required Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) forms.
• Ensure evaluations by students, clinical sites, and faculty are completed and summarized for the Dean, Chief Academic Officer, and Advisory Committee.
• Maintain minutes of inter-agency meetings and participate in nursing faculty recruitment, hiring, and orientation.
• Conduct regular nursing faculty meetings and maintain records of meetings.
• Participate in conflict resolution for faculty and students.
• Initiate and maintain community relationships, advocate for and market the programs.
• Monitor quality of instruction and participate in faculty and program review, evaluation, and strategic planning.
• Maintain membership and participate in professional associations.
• Interact with other college entities (e.g., counseling, registration, financial aid) as a representative of nursing interests.
• Provide advising support, degree planning, and academic assistance to students.
• Ensure students are properly oriented to nursing skills labs and clinical facilities.
• Manage student appeals and grievances per policy.
• Participate in the recruitment and admission of qualified nursing students.
• Advise and support nursing students to ensure completion of graduation and licensing exam requirements.
• Conduct Nursing Advisory Committee meetings and report on student performance, NCLEX licensing, and job placement rates.

Requirements

• Current RN license in the state where the campus is located.
• Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university, including coursework in nursing, education, or administration.
• Minimum of two years of experience in an administrative position.
• Minimum of two years of teaching experience in pre- or post-licensure nursing programs.
• At least two years of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care and/or equivalent experience as determined by the Board.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Proficiency in utilizing computer-based resources.
• Demonstrated ability to build consensus.
• Experience in supervision, planning, budget preparation, and maintenance.

Pay

Salary range: $140,000 - $180,000 per year.
