About the Role

The Supervisor in Training (SIT) program is designed to prepare individuals for a supervisory role within Tractor Supply Company’s network of Distribution Centers (DC). The program provides participants with hands-on, real-time experience working as a leader within a DC. The SIT program lasts 17–25 weeks and includes:

  • Departmental rotation through the DC
  • Department leadership experience
  • A store visit
  • Leadership curriculum
  • Formal check-ins with a mentor
  • Conducting a Department Business Review

Upon successful completion, the SIT will be considered for promotion to a Supervisor position across the DC network. Once promoted, the Supervisor will be assigned a department and undergo an additional 90-day onboarding period. Successful completion is determined by the Operations Manager (OM), General Manager (GM), and HR Business Partner (HRBP), with final approval from the Director of Human Resources and the Vice President of Distribution Operations. Promotion is performance-based and not guaranteed.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on supervisor roles and responsibilities during 2-week departmental rotations
  • Complete a 16-week schedule of online training in TMS
  • Complete 2-week checklists of Operations and Leadership activities
  • Participate in weekly formal check-ins with a mentor
  • Spend one week in another DC to collaborate with the broader network and observe differences between facilities
  • Prepare and present a Department Business Review to DC and Supply Chain Leadership as a final readiness check

Requirements

  • Ability to relocate is required
  • Flexibility to work all shifts
  • Basic proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Logistics coursework and/or job experience in warehousing and distribution

Internal Candidates: Must be a TSC team member for a minimum of 6 months and in “good standing” with safety, quality, performance, reliability, and teamwork.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree is highly preferred.

Working Conditions

Required to work in a physical environment subject to:

  • Temperature extremes
  • Movement of mobile and fixed equipment
  • Possible exposure to hazardous products and dust
  • Other conditions associated with a warehouse operation

Physical Requirements

This is a non-sedentary position requiring the physical and mental stamina to move throughout the distribution center quickly and safely. Essential tasks include (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Moving and transferring merchandise weighing up to 50–75 pounds
  • Frequently lifting or reaching merchandise overhead
  • Frequently standing, kneeling, twisting, crouching, squatting, bending, stooping, and climbing ladders for up to 12 hours
  • Moving throughout the distribution center for an entire shift
  • Safely accessing all areas of the distribution center, including stairs and all levels/floors
  • Operating equipment such as dollies, hand trucks, MHE, battery chargers, and computers
  • Pushing and pulling merchandise up to 2,000 pounds with proper MHE (e.g., pallet jack, forklift)
  • Reading, writing, and counting accurately to complete documentation
  • Effectively communicating with team members using strong written and verbal skills
  • Processing information and handling merchandise safely, following DC and OSHA safety rules
  • Completing all required training and certification
  • Driving or operating a vehicle for business needs

Eligibility: Part-time new hires gain eligibility for benefits by averaging at least 15 hours per week during their 90-day lookback period. The lookback period starts the first of the month following the date of hire.
