About the Role
We are seeking an experienced manager to oversee operations in an automated warehouse, distribution center, or similar environment. This role involves leading a diverse team, optimizing processes, and ensuring high levels of accuracy, throughput, and customer service in a fast-paced e-commerce setting.
Responsibilities
- Ensure shipments are configured to maximize efficiencies, minimize cost, and reduce order fulfillment errors without sacrificing customer service.
- Initiate actions to increase customer satisfaction with ordering and returning goods processes.
- Train staff on new developments and applications related to transportation modes in e-commerce.
- Partner with the onsite e-commerce team to convey key resource needs and requirements.
- Monitor inbound shipments and provide daily status reports.
- Ensure work is performed according to company standards, policies, procedures, and safe practices.
- Manage all operations related to picking and packing customer orders of merchandise.
- Lead a workforce of 50+ team members, including hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, coaching, and terminating.
- Track and coach team performance against goals.
- Allocate resources effectively to meet daily, weekly, and monthly objectives.
- Regularly walk the floor to manage workflow through the department.
- Work collaboratively with the manager while making independent decisions.
- Analyze operations and implement processes to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure accuracy, throughput, and customer service metrics are met within the department.
- Motivate the team and collaborate with other business partners.
- Ensure all records and reports for the department are accurate and submitted on time.
- Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3+ years of related work experience.
- Managerial experience in an automated warehouse, distribution center, store, or manufacturing environment.
- Experience in e-commerce, direct-to-consumer environments, and managerial roles is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent years of related work experience.
Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of Windows, MS Office, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), AS/400, Lotus Notes, and Sterling Commerce.
- Working knowledge of small parcel processes and parcel shipping systems.
- Solid knowledge of web-based retail environments.
- Understanding of logistics, managerial techniques, and principles.
- Ability to supervise, develop, and motivate a team toward strategic goals in a fast-paced production environment.
- Ability to identify inefficiencies, formulate action plans, and implement changes.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and a non-climate-controlled environment.
- Proficiency in managing reverse logistics processes.
- Desire and ability to quickly learn all systems used within the Fulfillment Center.
- Strong management, organization, and prioritization skills.
- Analytical skills to develop solutions for regional distribution operations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to deal effectively with change.
- Effective listening, speaking, and writing skills.
- Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties.
- Ability to work in mezzanines or on material handling equipment up to 35 feet in height.
- Ability to train and assist team members in WMS and associated systems.
- Ability to travel for training at a remote network distribution center for up to three months (temporary housing provided if needed).
- Demonstrated ability to grow in the position as operations expand.
- Strong internal and external customer focus to support and improve the customer experience.
- Regular attendance is required.
