About the Role

As a CNC Machinist, you will set up, adjust, and operate CNC lathes and/or mills, as well as special types of machine tools. You will perform diversified machining operations on standard work with tolerance and finish specifications, requiring a general knowledge of machining practices and techniques. This position is based at our facility in Houston, TX (11951 N. Spectrum Blvd, 77047) and follows a shift schedule of 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Work from drawings, sketches, and specifications to complete various machining operations.
  • Edit CNC programs to manufacture parts per blueprint/drawings.
  • Perform machine setups to achieve close tolerances, fitting, and alignment of machined parts.
  • Obtain required inspections on first pieces of a run and perform inspections on work-in-progress using a variety of measuring devices.
  • Complete and maintain records of time, part counts, first-piece inspections, and requisition forms for each job.
  • Create jigs, fixtures, or other specialized non-production devices as assigned.
  • Acquire raw materials, supplies, and tools when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, adhere to safety protocols, and conform to quality procedures and standards.
  • Perform first-piece inspections for other machinists as qualified and assigned.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance of machines according to the PM schedule.
  • Troubleshoot drawings, machining, tooling, programming, and material issues, making competent decisions for the job at hand.
  • Maintain and monitor machine shop equipment, safeguarding against improper use and incorrect setups to prevent damage.
  • Detect errors through frequent tolerance and quality checks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of shop experience as a machinist.
  • Technical training in shop math and blueprint reading.
  • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).

Preferred Skills

  • Clear communication, both oral and written.
  • Organization skills; ability to maintain a clean work area to 5S standards.
  • Meets productivity standards by completing work in a timely manner.
  • Experience with Fanuc Controls.

Work Environment

  • Works with various machinery and metalworking materials in a machine shop environment, including cutting fluids, lubricants, and metal shavings.
  • Requires wearing appropriate PPE such as safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and gloves, and adhering to all safety procedures.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent walking, standing, reaching, and bending.
  • Periodic lifting of moderate to heavy items may be required.
  • Good hand/eye coordination.
  • Normal operations require eye protection, steel-toed footwear, and occasionally hand protection.
