About the Role

This non-exempt position assists customers by stocking shelves and displays efficiently, courteously, and in a friendly manner. The Day Clerk reports formally to the Store Director.

Responsibilities

• Know and implement the Cosentino Customer Service Standards.
• Quickly unload and sort incoming shipments, stocking them neatly in designated areas without damaging merchandise.
• Maintain neat back room, cooler, and freezer areas ready for new deliveries.
• Stock grocery shelves by matching item UPCs to shelf tags and using the “face front” display method.
• Support the inventory process by accurately counting and recording merchandise.
• Change shelf tags, update price markers on displays, and label/price mark merchandise with missing UPC codes.
• Monitor and remove damaged, unsaleable, or returnable products, following proper procedures for damage claims.
• Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
• Meet or exceed productivity standards for individual and team results.
• Monitor and rotate products based on expiration dates, ensuring ad items are properly rotated.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area and department for customers and coworkers.
• Comply with and encourage team compliance with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures.
• Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
• Use basic math and reading skills required for the position.
• Know department items, procedures, and policies to accurately and courteously answer customer questions.
• Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve store management when appropriate.
• Complete additional tasks identified by management, assist other stores or departments as needed, and gain new skills.

Requirements

Knowledge

• Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino Learning Plan (essential).
• A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred (non-essential).

Skills

• Strong verbal and interpersonal skills for customer and peer interactions.
• Basic math and reading skills required for the position.

Physical Abilities

• Reaching overhead with both arms, twisting at the waist, and lifting objects up to 10 lbs (essential).
• Pushing and pulling grocery items and carts (up to 75 lbs peak force) to proper locations (essential).
• Standing and walking for long periods on hard surfaces (tile, asphalt, concrete) (essential).
• Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs (essential).
• Bending and squatting, sometimes to floor level (essential).
• Working in colder conditions, such as grocery coolers and freezers (essential).
• Climbing a ladder, possibly up to 5 ft (non-essential).
