Database Administrator
About the role
Applies expert knowledge of the data management process to support Exchange database management within the IT infrastructure portfolio. Responsibilities include reviewing, evaluating, designing, implementing, and maintaining corporate databases, identifying data sources, constructing data decomposition and data flow diagrams, writing code for accessing and modifying databases, and constructing stored procedures.
Ensures IT compliance with security, audit policies, and procedures. Monitors and tunes database systems for optimum performance, develops and maintains standard operating procedures and documentation, and provides project leadership for major database projects. Offers guidance to developers and users on database capabilities, software, hardware, and procedures. Ensures data integrity and defines disaster recovery requirements and plans.
Serves as third-level support for non-routine database management incidents and responds to requests via phone and email. Safeguards physical access to Exchange-restricted data, processes, and services.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and resolve database performance issues, capacity issues, replication/clone/restores, and other database-related problems.
- Design databases and ensure new software compliance.
- Interface with development staff, project management, and senior management.
- Manage data security and provide technical resources/training to junior staff.
- Coordinate with Exchange business units, the Project Management Office (PMO), and IT staff to confirm compliance and risk mitigation.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans, including failover and point-in-time recovery.
- Perform IMS-specific tasks: HALDB partitioning, IMS Full Function DBs (HDAM, HISAM, HIDAM, GSAM), IMS SYSGEN (DBDGEN, PSBGEN, ACBGEN), Dynamic Resource Definition (DRD), and IMS TM (Control/Dependent Regions, transaction queue optimization).
- Conduct performance tuning and diagnostics, including buffer pools, locking, bottlenecks, log/trace/DBRC analysis, and monitoring tools.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including shift work, on-call support, after-hours projects, and occasional travel (TDY).
Requirements
- Five years of experience in the administration of IMS, DB2, Oracle, or SQL Server databases and subsystems.
- Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology with three years of experience in the administration of IMS, DB2, Oracle, or SQL Server databases and subsystems.
Work Environment
- 24x7 work environment supporting Exchange operations, which may require shift work, on-call support, after-hours projects, holidays, and weekends.
- Onsite role at HQ in Dallas, Texas (remote/telework not authorized).
- IT environment is dynamic, requiring quick solutions and evolving skills.
