About the role

Administrates organization's database, using database management system to organize and store data. Coordinates physical changes to computer databases; codes, tests, and implements physical database. Designs logical and physical databases, reviews database design changes, and ensures data storage aligns with physical characteristics such as location, space, and access method. Establishes and refines database parameters, user access levels, and performance monitoring. Directs programmers and analysts to implement database changes, reviews programs, and answers user questions. Modifies database programs to enhance performance (performance tuning). May specialize in one or more types of database management systems and train users.

Responsibilities

  • Ascertain user requirements and create, test, and coordinate changes to computer databases.
  • Interact with development and end-user personnel to determine application data access requirements, transaction rates, volume analysis, and other pertinent data for integrated databases.
  • Ensure database performance and coordinate physical changes to databases.
  • Code database descriptions and specify identifiers for database management systems.
  • Calculate optimum values for database parameters, such as memory usage.
  • Specify user access levels for data segments (insert, replace, retrieve, delete) and define user permissions.
  • Test, correct errors, and refine database changes; create production databases.
  • Monitor database performance using utility programs (e.g., record distribution, available memory).
  • Direct programmers and analysts to implement database changes and review corrections.
  • Assess the impact of database changes on other systems and staffing costs.
  • Troubleshoot complex database and application stack issues.
  • Maintain strong documentation and communication with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of IT experience, particularly in database administration.
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle, MySQL, MS-SQL, and PostgreSQL in enterprise environments.
  • Strong knowledge of database architecture, indexing strategies, query optimization, and execution plan analysis.
  • Experience with backup and recovery methods, including snapshot-based solutions.
  • Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, and shell scripting.
  • Familiarity with application hosting middleware (e.g., WebLogic, Apache, Tomcat).
  • Understanding of database security, hardening practices, and compliance requirements.

Desired Skills

  • Working knowledge of NetApp SnapCenter for database storage management.
  • Experience supporting Oracle E-Business Suite environments.
  • Experience with EM24ai and eBS plug-in configuration.
  • Exposure to cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, OCI).
  • Scripting or automation experience using shell, Python, or similar tools.
