About the role

As a Data Scientist on our Strategic Network Design team, you'll help shape the future of Best Buy's supply chain. Using data science, analytics, and modeling, you'll uncover insights that influence major decisions about inventory, transportation, fulfillment, and network growth. You'll work with cross-functional partners to solve complex business challenges and turn data into actionable recommendations that improve cost, speed, capacity, and customer experience. This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days at our corporate office in Richfield, Minnesota, and some days virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process.

What You'll Do

  • Analyze large, complex datasets to support supply chain planning and network design decisions
  • Build and maintain analytical models, forecasts, and scenario-planning inputs
  • Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency, capacity utilization, and service performance
  • Develop scalable data pipelines that improve the quality and consistency of network modeling
  • Partner with analysts, modelers, and business teams to translate operational needs into data-driven solutions
  • Present insights, recommendations, and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, economics or supply chain
  • 2 years of experience in data science, analytics, operations research, or a related field
  • Experience using SQL, Python, Excel or similar tools to analyze large datasets
  • Experience building analytical models or decision-support solutions
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a STEM-related field
  • Experience in supply chain, transportation, inventory, fulfillment, or network analytics
  • Experience with forecasting, optimization, simulation, or scenario modeling
  • Familiarity with Python libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn or PySpark
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau or similar visualization tools
