About the role

Data Scientists at John Hancock Life Insurance Company play a crucial role in leveraging machine learning and data analysis to enhance underwriting processes, driving cost savings, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Develop and participate in machine learning and data analysis driven projects supporting the underwriting function.
• Clean, preprocess, and analyze large datasets to extract meaningful insights and patterns.
• Collaborate with multi-functional teams to identify and define business requirements and ensure alignment with data science objectives.
• Design and complete experiments to validate and optimize machine learning models, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
• Collaborate with data engineers and ML engineers to integrate data science solutions into existing systems and workflows.
• Communicate sophisticated technical concepts and findings to technical and non-technical partners to ensure clear understanding and agreement.
• Conduct peer reviews and participate in model and code reviews.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field and 2 years of data analysis experience.
• Experience using programming languages including Python or R.
• Statistical testing and modeling experience.
• Machine learning principles and techniques experience.
• Data visualization tools or libraries experience.

Work Arrangement

Hybrid from Boston Office (3 days from office, 2 days from home).

Pay

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Salary range is expected to be between $90,160.00 USD - $167,440.00 USD.
