Data Center Operations Technician II (Night) (SV9)
About the role
As a Data Center Technician II on the Night Shift (11:00 PM – 7:30 AM), you will assist in maintaining the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the data center. This role involves acquiring job skills and learning company policies to complete routine operations tasks, ensuring data center problems are identified and repaired quickly, and that contractors deliver quality services while meeting internal customer demands.
A Tier 2 technician is responsible for day-to-day operations, including security functions, telecommunications standards and installations, customer build-outs, general site response and triage, and customer interaction. You will gain working knowledge of data center mechanical, electrical, telecom, and security equipment.
Responsibilities
- Manage building service requests through resolution.
- Perform and complete work orders and customer service tickets in a timely manner.
- Trouble Ticket Management and Remote Hands Management.
- Work Order Completion Process.
- Mine cables without disrupting services to existing data cabling on facility ladder rack or fiber trough.
- Infrastructure projects (Internal/Customer), including:
- Cage and Cabinet Build-Outs
- Overhead Installations
- Rack and Stack
- Navigate and utilize a CMMS system.
- Use developed procedures to solve problems.
- Assist in asset and consumable inventory management.
- Track and properly label all equipment per established procedures.
- Ensure processes are completed in a timely manner pertaining to Service Level Agreements (SLA) and upload data to internal systems.
- Monitor and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems, including:
- Mechanical
- Electrical
- Building Monitoring
- Security
- Control systems
- Follow direction of data center technicians regarding day-to-day activities.
- Provide physical security within the CoreSite premises.
- Incident escalation and report writing.
- Provide exceptional day-to-day customer service and support.
- Maintain and complete regular facility and security tours, documenting and responding to found issues.
- Notify customers, management, and facility teams of security system alarms and breaches.
- Manage the loading dock shipping and receiving.
- Assist with managing systems to avoid unplanned customer-impacting outages.
- Adhere to and promote CoreSite’s Principles of Operational Excellence, culture, and core values.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or greater.
- 2+ years of experience in either the facilities or telecom industry.
- Experience as an installer in a mission-critical facility is a plus.
- Ability to pass an extensive background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications, and Department of Motor Vehicle and credit checks.
Skills & Abilities
- Basic knowledge of fundamentals and best practices of cabling media types.
- Basic understanding of 568A and 568B color codes and applications.
- Familiarity with CCTV and access control security systems.
- Effective communication with customers and internal staff.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and address issues in a Mission Critical 24x7 environment.
- Able to write concise and accurate reports.
- Ability to work independently but as part of a team.

- On-the-job understanding of mechanical, electrical, fire life safety, and security systems in a data center, including:
- Electrical distribution and layout
- Transformers, PLCs, generators, switchgear
- UPS systems, STS’, ATS’, PDUs
- Chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH
- Pre-action sprinkler systems
- Security hardware, CCTV, monitoring, and CMMS systems

Pay
Compensation for this role includes a base salary between $33.00/hr and $37.00/hr. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus and equity, based on individual and company performance.
