OVERVIEW: The D. E. Shaw group seeks a talented and highly motivated engineer to join its Systems Data Center team. This team is responsible for the design, build, and coverage of firmwide critical infrastructure, including data centers, colocation facilities, and MDF/IDF rooms. WHAT YOU’LL DO DAY-TO-DAY: Coordinate and perform data center operations in our New Jersey data center sites with occasional visits to other sites in the New York metro area. Work on all areas of our data center operations to build, install, and troubleshoot servers, storage, networking equipment, and copper and fiber cables. Identify and implement enhancements to processes and policies, monitor and prioritize daily workflow, manage data center site capacity and vendors, and assist in forecasting future site requirements. Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to ensure effective partnerships and successful project outcomes. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR: Two to seven years of relevant experience and an interest in both building technology and helping others use it effectively. Experience with general systems administration, including server hardware and troubleshooting. Prior data center experience (e.g., data center buildouts/migrations, liquid cooling, power balancing, cabling, and automation) is preferred. Excellent communication, attention to detail, judgment, and organizational skills, as the role involves working with global colleagues across various backgrounds, experiences, and projects. Flexibility in working hours (some evenings and weekends), along with reliable transportation. Prior experience with financial services is a plus but not required. The expected annual base salary for this position is $140,000 to $180,000.
