About the Role

Join a team responsible for the continuous operation and performance of our client’s data centers. This position involves day-to-day support of server, network, and storage components, including chassis, module, and power supply replacement during incidents, projects, RMA returns, and maintenance activities. You will ensure high-quality service delivery, respond to high-impact issues on a 24x7 basis, and participate in crisis management while adhering to service levels and network improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Rack and install physical IT infrastructure equipment in the data center, including network, telecommunications, servers, and storage.
  • Participate in project implementation calls as needed.
  • Quickly understand the client’s network and SAN design to ensure successful and timely installations.
  • Install new hardware in data center cabinets and participate in deployment/release activities while following change policies.
  • Submit change control requests, manage problem tickets, and coordinate repairs.
  • Provide on-site support during incidents, RMA, project, and maintenance activities.
  • Offer tier II support for data, network, server, and storage systems infrastructure.
  • Assist in voice and data network problem determination efforts.
  • Work from pre-prepared cabling request sheets and checklists for vendors.
  • Install Ethernet and fiber Gig-E cabling, including routing, labeling, and adhering to cabling management standards.
  • Coordinate and manage cabling contractors for larger cabling activities.
  • Verify connectivity of newly installed hardware for production acceptance.
  • Maintain and document appropriate levels of fiber optic and copper jumper cables for timely system installations.
  • Provide planning and vendor oversight for server, network, and storage change activities.
  • Operate in accordance with business needs, priorities, and SLAs.
  • Provide periodic performance reports and input on improvements and quality initiatives.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Diagnose and repair defective equipment, including swapping cables and sparing fibers within a trunk.
  • Provide local hands-on support guided by remote teams for LAN/SAN troubleshooting, installations, and break-fix activities.
  • Perform minimal OS configuration required for remote support (e.g., remote login setup).
  • Manage incident response and vendor coordination for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, break/fix, and retirement of physical infrastructure.
  • Provide 3rd-level physical hardware support for escalated problems.
  • Arrange security clearance/access for site visits by visitors and third-party vendors.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • 3 years of prior experience with large enterprise networks and SANs, preferably in the healthcare sector.
  • Knowledge of layer-2/3 network designs, protocols, and exposure to SAN fiber channel.
  • Experience with vendor equipment such as Cisco, Juniper, F5, Riverbed, and Ariba.
  • Familiarity with packet capture tools like Wireshark and tcpdump.
  • Basic understanding of Python programming.
  • 3 years of relevant experience in data center operations, including power supply, fan, and component replacements.
  • Solid understanding of data center cabling principles.
  • Basic experience with Linux and Windows.
  • Willingness to learn and use DCIM systems for data center documentation.
  • Strong organization, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members, peers, and vendors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline (preferred) and at least 3 years of experience in infrastructure network management, or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Preferred certifications (not mandatory): Cisco CCNA, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+.
