Data and Compliance Specialist (11 Month)

About the Role

The Compliance and Data Specialist assists the executive director with ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations, coordinates training related to individualized education programs (IEP), and provides guidance on instructional best practices as part of the instructional specialist team. This role works with school-based administrators to ensure IEPs are implemented as written and helps fulfill state and federal reporting requirements. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Specialized Instruction.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Special Education.
• Valid Virginia Department of Education Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Special Education.
• Endorsement in Administration and Supervision, PreK-12 (preferred, not required).
• At least 5 years of experience as a special education teacher or specialist.

Skills

• Knowledge of and ability to keep current with all Federal, State, and local mandates for special education to ensure compliance.
• Experience with data collection methods and analyzing data pertaining to special education for reporting, planning, and evaluating services.
• Ability to work collaboratively with school division personnel to implement and monitor special education services.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills for interacting with parents, advocacy groups, and representing the school division.
• Strong management and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and leadership to central office and school-based personnel regarding policy, procedures, and implementation of instructional services.
• Assist in the development and implementation of special education policies and procedures.
• Interpret Federal and State regulations relative to their impact on special education.
• Monitor compliance with Federal, State, and local special education regulations.
• Respond to concerns from parents, teachers, school, and central office administrators.
• Prepare and submit state reports related to the State Performance Plan indicators.
• Administer appointment of surrogate parents, when appropriate, to act as advocates for children whose parents or guardians are unavailable, unwilling, or unable to act.
• Monitor the development and implementation of Individual Education Programs (IEPs).
• Coordinate training for teachers on developing quality IEPs, including specific and measurable annual goals.
• Conduct audits of IEPs for quality and implementation assurance.
• Perform other additional duties or tasks as designated by supervisor.
