Position Duties

Create accurate, verbatim captions for pre-recorded and, when applicable, live multimedia content, including lectures, instructional videos, webinars, and campus communications.

Ensure captions meet current accessibility standards (ADA / Section 504 / Section 508 aligned), including:

  • High accuracy and completeness
  • Proper synchronization with audio
  • Correct grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and speaker identification
  • Inclusion of meaningful non-speech audio when appropriate

Review, Edit, and Proofread

Review, edit, and proofread captions to ensure clarity, readability, and consistency.

Qualifications

  • Strong command of written English, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Excellent listening comprehension and typing accuracy
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to identify and correct errors
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines
  • Commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and ethical work practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with captioning, transcription, editing, or accessibility-related work
  • Ability to adapt to a wide range of academic subject matter and speaking styles
  • Strong organizational skills and reliability
  • Multilingual skills are a plus but not required
  • Additional Note

    Prior experience with captioning software is not required. Training is provided.

    Working Conditions/Schedule

    • Academic year (fall, winter, and spring terms)
    • Summer employment is negotiable based on departmental needs
    • Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory performance

    Approved Work Window

    • 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday

    Expected

    • 15-20 hours per week

    Maximum

    • 24 hours per week during academic terms
    • For international students, 20 hours per week during academic terms

    Salary Range

    Anticipated Start Date: 2026-07-24

    Anticipated End Date

    2026-07-28
