The opportunity Delaware North Gaming is hiring a part-time Daily Starter to join our team at Finger Lakes Gaming in Farmington, New York. Starters work under the direction of the Racing Secretary to oversee the operations of the starting department in accordance with all company, state, and gaming commissions standards, policies, and laws. Oversee the training and loading of horses in the gate before starting each race, assisting with any emergencies that might arise on the trackPlace unruly horses on the starter’s list until such horses have been properly schooled at the gateMaintain contact with the outriders and stewards before the start, during, and after the raceMaintain knowledge of the union contract as it pertains to the Assistant StartersSupervise work through planning and scheduling of work assignments, performance development, and appraisal of staff More About You No high school diploma or GED requiredMinimum of five years of related experience, with racetrack and supervisory experience requiredMust be licensed and approved by the required Gaming CommissionExperience with Thoroughbred horses requiredExperience as a jockey or trainer preferred Physical Requirements Manual dexterity is sufficient to maneuver around horsesAbility to stand, crouch, and climb to perform dutiesAbility to lift, push, and pull up to 75 poundsVisual acuity is sufficient for knowing activity in own surroundings Shift details Weekdays as needed Days Who We Are Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack, owned and operated by Delaware North, features more than 1,500 video gaming machines and brings the thrill of live thoroughbred racing from April to November and year-round simulcast wagering on thoroughbred and harness racing from across the country.
