About the role
Independently performs routine and special procedures on patient specimens. Assists lab management with daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Microscopically screens slides containing cells from all body sites.
- Microscopically screens slides utilizing imager technology (25%).
- Prepares and processes specimens and assists with fine needle aspirates, as needed, following departmental policies and safety guidelines (20%).
- Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation (20%).
- Troubleshoots problems with quality control and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information (20%).
- Serves as a consultant to cytotechnologists and other health care providers as needed (5%).
- Participates in continuing education to ensure growth and development of the laboratory (5%).
- Aids in training of other health care providers (5%).
- Assumes supervisory duties as assigned (5%).
- Communicates with management and co-workers concerning the needs of laboratory including supplies for efficient laboratory operations (5%).
- Oversees the development of procedure manual and reviews manual and assures that all staff review and sign all manuals (20%).
- Performs all other duties as assigned (10%).
Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in ASCP eligible program CT(ASCP)
- 3 years of relevant experience or equivalent
