This position serves as a first-level supervisor for assigned staff and assists the Director in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the program/activity. The incumbent reports directly to the Director with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Assist with program oversight and accountability for employee performance, child safety, and customer needs.
- Supervise staff by assigning work, conducting performance reviews, and approving leave.
- Establish local performance standards for employees and volunteers using established guidelines and rate performance.
- Ensure facility compliance with health, fire, safety, USDA, and program regulatory standards.
- Observe program participants for signs of illness, abuse, neglect, or emotional distress and follow mandated reporting protocols.
- Work with the Director to ensure compliance with standards, criteria, and laws for DoD certification and national accreditation.
- Assist in implementing recommendations or correcting deficiencies.
Requirements
- Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
- Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
- Favorably adjudicated background checks are required due to regular contact with children under 18 (per Section 231 of the Crime Control Act of 1990 and DoD Instruction 1402.05).
- Must comply with immunization requirements, including influenza vaccine, as recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and subsequent physicals, provide evidence of immunization, and be free from communicable diseases.
- Must complete all DoD and Service training requirements, including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training, as well as required certifications.
- Must maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers certifications.
- Must follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Requires mobility to ensure child safety, including walking, standing, bending, stooping, and sitting on the floor.
- Must have visual and auditory capabilities to supervise children and comply with sight and sound supervision requirements.
- Tour of duty may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Majority of work is performed in CYS facilities (classrooms, activity areas, outdoor areas) with occasional indoor and outdoor field trips.
Qualifications
Resumes must clearly demonstrate relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities for this position. A qualified candidate must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in child development, early childhood education, elementary or secondary education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education, or other fields appropriate to the position.
- For Child Development Facilities: Education must be in child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education, or directly related behavioral sciences.
Combination of Education and Experience
Option 1:
- 24 semester hours in the majors listed above or a related field, plus 12 months of experience working in group programs with children/youth, including demonstrated knowledge of child/youth development theories. At least 6 months must be in a supervisory position.
- Must possess the McCormick Credential.
Option 2:
- 24 semester hours in the majors listed above or a related field, plus at least 12 months of experience working in group programs with children/youth, including demonstrated knowledge of child/youth development theories. At least 12 months must be in a supervisory position.
Proof of education is required at the time of application. Education must be directly related to the position; general education courses do not count toward the credit total.
