The Role

The Cyber/Data/Privacy (c/d/p) practice group is seeking an associate to join the team in our New York, San Francisco, Seattle or Washington, DC offices.

Cooley has over 30 attorneys focusing on these issues full time in the US, Europe, and Asia and is continuing the expansion of the US practice. The group works with a broad variety of emerging companies, public companies, leading technology companies, financial institutions, life sciences companies, national media companies, etc. The group’s work includes a counseling and advisory component, as well as work on privacy and cybersecurity aspects of corporate and technology transactions, incident preparedness and response, state and federal investigations, and/or litigation.

Responsibilities

  • Advising clients on cyber/data/privacy compliance issues, including CCPA, CPRA, GDPR and other privacy law compliance
  • Information security and privacy due diligence for corporate transactions
  • Data processing agreements and privacy schedules in commercial transactions
  • Data breach response and incident response planning

Requirements

  • Four to seven years of experience advising clients on cyber/data/privacy compliance issues, in either a private law firm or in-house position
  • A high level of academic achievement from a nationally recognized law school
  • The ability to engage directly with clients and lead significant projects
  • Very strong analytical and writing skills

Pay

The expected annual pay range for this position is $310,000-$420,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
