CWC Bricklayer

About the role

The Department of Transportation’s (DOT) mission is to provide for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods in the City of New York and to maintain and enhance the transportation infrastructure crucial to the economic vitality and quality of life of City residents. The Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management’s Citywide Concrete Unit supports this goal by acting as the agency’s primary construction unit, employing dedicated engineers, managers, support staff, and laborers to enhance, rehabilitate, and maintain the City’s infrastructure with a focus on cost-savings, efficiency, and the highest standards of safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Lay brick and masonry on given structures.
• Perform fireproofing, block arching, terra cotta cutting, and setting.
• Construct brick masonry for sewers and manholes.
• Lay cobblestone and set granite curb.
• Lay pavers.
• Read and follow plans and specifications.
• Keep job and other records.
• May supervise assigned personnel.
• Perform additional duties in line with the title as assigned.

Requirements

• Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Bricklayer; or
• At least three years of experience as a Bricklayer and sufficient bricklayer apprentice experience or training in the bricklaying field acquired in an approved trade, technical, or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of the above experience or training.
• Must either be serving permanently in the title, be reachable on the civil service list (Exam #0155), or have filed and be reachable on either Exam #4518 or #4020.
• A driver's license valid in the state of New York, which must be maintained throughout employment in this position (preference given to candidates who possess this).

Pay

$63.23 per hour.

Schedule

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
