About the role
Assist in small group and individual pupil instruction.
Responsibilities
- Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
- Absorb and implement discipline measures as directed.
- Aid in instructional activities.
- Escort students between rooms.
- Toileting students is sometimes required.
- Involves work with both special education and regular students.
- Aid in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Supervise students during recess and lunch.
- Aid in classroom assignments.
- Copy materials for instructional purposes.
- Aid in filing and preparing paperwork.
- Alert teachers to potential issues.
- Might need to support toileting of students.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
- Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree.
- Successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment covering content knowledge and understanding of assisting in instruction.
Skills
- Basic knowledge and experience with job-related computer hardware and software applications.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Must be able to push items of fifty (50) pounds with assistance.
Work Environment
- The noise level in the work environment is typical of classrooms with school children.
- The employee will work throughout the school building, on school grounds, and occasionally off campus.
- The paraprofessional is responsible for the safety and well-being of students in their charge.
Pay and Schedule
Salary: Range $22.12-$25.18 Per contractual agreement
