Responsibilities
- Maintain and update the company's HTS classification database
- Execute accurate HTS classification and valuation of products being imported/exported
- Proactively review the importing process to ensure all items are compliant before being released to ship
- Perform denied party screenings
- Research and analyze products for qualification for free trade agreements
- Collect and issue USMCA/CUSMA Certificates
- Review broker documents to ensure accuracy
- Provide guidance and support to internal teams on customs-related matters
- Identify potential compliance issues and implement corrective actions to prevent delays, fines, and disruptions to the supply chain
- Contribute to the development of import/export control compliance measures
- Recommend improvements to systems and procedures to enhance efficiency
- Support the relationship with Customs Brokers and other related providers
- Aid in requests for information from US Customs, other government agencies, Customs brokers, and freight forwarders
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of all customs transactions
- Other tasks as assigned
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in international trade, logistics, business, or a related field is typically preferred.
- Relevant experience in customs compliance, logistics, or supply chain management involving textile products is essential.
- Familiarity with international trade laws and regulations is crucial.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel; working knowledge of Cognos and Net Systems.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure and calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Proficiency in using compliance software and tools is also beneficial.
