Custodian (Part Time)

About the role

Under general supervision, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining clean and sanitary conditions in assigned areas, such as exhibit spaces, common areas, employee break areas, and other locations within the exhibit. This individual will perform janitorial duties adhering to approved department cleaning procedures, including specialized sanitizing as needed. As a representative of the department, this individual is expected to present oneself in a manner that reflects professionalism and ensures company standards.

Responsibilities

• Clean restrooms, including toilets, sinks, floors; replenish paper supplies, soaps, etc.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum floor surfaces, dust exhibit fixtures, spot clean furniture and carpet.
• Sanitize and disinfect high touch points throughout the exhibit.
• Operate vacuums and carpet cleaning equipment/extractor.
• Clean and sanitize public and common areas.
• Clean surfaces inside the art exhibit.
• Use a variety of cleaning products including bleach and mild chemicals.
• Keep work carts fully stocked and ready for use.

Requirements

• Follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to interpret directions on cleaning products and equipment.
• Willingness to take on challenges and responsibility.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

• Dual language skills, especially but not limited to English and Spanish.
• A willingness to learn.
• Flexibility to change.
• Willingness to work outside comfort zone to assist guests or fellow team members.
• Prior experience performing custodial duties.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• This job operates in an office environment as well as a museum/art exhibit.
• Routinely uses cleaning equipment such as mops, vacuums, and other cleaning tools.
• Physical ability to walk, stand, take stairs/slide/elevators, and navigate the elements during the day and night.
• May be required to lift up to 60 lbs.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Compliance with company and OSHA standard workplace safety protocols.
