Responsibilities
The Custodian III performs highly complex (senior-level) custodial work. Responsibilities include performing, coordinating, cleaning, and sanitizing state hospital buildings and treatment units; providing housekeeping services in a clinical setting, which also involves conducting inspections of the buildings and equipment.
The Custodian III orders and restocks supplies and equipment and provides backup to other custodians as needed. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy
- Maintains cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment, and maintains records of the supplies used, and building property maintenance tools/equipment
- Ensures proper usage and maintenance, and if necessary, minor repairs on buildings and equipment
- Coordinates and performs the cleaning, dusting, and disinfecting restrooms, all office surfaces/furniture, treatment areas, patient bedrooms, and other hospital areas, utilizing cleaning chemicals as needed
- Ensures all patient units meet or exceed the minimum standard guidelines for cleanliness, health and safety, and infection control
- Inspects the buildings and identifies any problem areas in need of follow up, and ensures follow-up occurs
- Assists the Custodian Manager in implementing the overall hospital safety and infection control program
Requirements
- One year of experience in a custodial/housekeeping in custodial or environmental services work in a nursing home, hospital, residential facility, hotel or other similar residential equivalent
- OR Eighteen (18) months proven work experience
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Qualifications
Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures to include how to dust, sweep and mop. Knowledge of how to strip and wax floors. Knowledge of how to clean and disinfect restrooms and shower stalls.
- Skills in the use of custodial materials and chemicals, and in the operation of custodial equipment
- Skills in the use and maintenance of building maintenance tools and equipment
- Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions
- Ability to stay on task and complete work timely
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods
- Ability to work harmoniously and productively with co-workers and patients
- Ability to work irregular hours

Pay
Salary Range: $2,962.92 - $3,547.58, Pay Frequency: Monthly
