Buildings and General Services (BGS) at the State of Vermont has an entry-level opportunity with room for growth as a Custodian II. This position maintains the buildings at the Waterbury Complex, working with a diverse and team-oriented group.
About the Role
This is a full-time position responsible for daily cleaning of the buildings in the complex. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
Responsibilities
- Daily cleaning of state-owned or leased buildings
- Floor maintenance tasks, including stripping, waxing floors, and carpet extraction
- Addressing bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials
- Working outdoors in all types of weather
- Climbing ladders and lifting weights of up to 50 lbs
Requirements
- One (1) year or more of building custodial work, including floor maintenance tasks such as stripping and waxing floors and carpet extraction
- OR one (1) year as a BGS Custodian I
- Valid driver’s license and ability to provide own transportation for travel between work locations
- Successful completion of a criminal background check
- Good physical condition
Environmental Factors
- Duties are performed during an assigned shift at one or more state-owned or leased buildings
- Overtime and evening work may be required

This position is eligible for a sign-on and retention bonus of up to $1,000. Only new hires employed by BGS in the location specified are eligible.
Pay
The starting rate may be negotiable based on experience and education.
