Custodian I - Day Shift

About the role

Facilities Management at CU Boulder encourages applications for Custodial Staff. This position cleans and sanitizes facilities for students, staff, faculty and customers on the Boulder Campus.

Responsibilities

• Rotate through different specialist positions as part of the Team Cleaning Program, performing duties as scheduled on area floor plans.
• Perform area substitution duties in vacant areas or to cover for employees on leave.
• Perform emergency clean up duties as necessary.
• Wear proper personal protective equipment as required.
• Notify supervisor or lead worker of safety incidents, near misses and all potential hazards.
• Maintain safe work practices, participate in department safety meetings and complete all assigned trainings.
• Remove snow and ice as necessary from walks and stairs; apply de-icer as needed to keep entryways open and safe.
• Respond to other duties as assigned on an as needed basis as an essential services employee.
• Perform initial emergency clean up for floods; pick up water or debris then extract carpeted floors and upholstered furniture with disinfectant.
• Clean upholstery by hand or with extractor as scheduled.
• Move or assist in the moving of heavy furniture in compliance with F/M and Risk Management policies.
• Participate in the "Eyes and Ears Program" to help promote safety at the university.
• Serve on "Emergency Response Teams" as needed.
• Clean and perform minor maintenance on all custodial equipment to keep it in proper working order.
• Report all equipment needing repairs to the Team Supervisor.
• Empty and clean all vacuums, auto scrubbers, buckets and hydro- and hepa-vacs daily.
• Keep workstation clean and well stocked with supplies and materials needed to perform the work in the assigned area.
• Maintain workstation in a safe manner, add water to floor drains as needed, and report updates to building floor plans.
• Determine what type of specialized floor work is needed, such as carpet deep extraction cleaning versus bonnet shampooing.
• Determine the type of floor equipment needed to complete the task, including whether auto scrubbing and top-coating with wax is sufficient or if the floor needs to be completely stripped and re-waxed.
• Read and comprehend lab safety signs, symbols and postings.
• Create and place safety signs to help prevent accidents.

Schedule

Monday - Friday from 4:30 am - 1:00 pm. This position may be required to work alternative shifts.

Pay

The annual salary for this position is $40,248. If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

Qualifications

Must be a Colorado resident to apply.

Six months of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
