About the role
Under supervision from the Custodial Squad Leader or Custodial Supervisor, performs cleaning, unskilled building maintenance, event set-ups, and animal/insect control. Work involves medium to heavy lifting inside and outside various College facilities such as offices, laboratories, eating facilities, public areas, and auditoriums. Implements recycling procedures. This posting is for a first-shift position.
Schedule
- Regular full-time, 40 scheduled months per year, 12 scheduled hours per week
- First-shift schedules: 4:00 AM–12:30 PM, 5:00 AM–1:30 PM, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, or 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
- Two consecutive days off per week
- Mandatory overtime as required
Pay
$24.88 per hour (non-exempt, FLSA status).
Location
Hanover, NH (onsite only).
Responsibilities
- Daily: unlock/lock assigned spaces; clean, mop, strip, wax, and buff hard-surface floors (stairways, restrooms, kitchens, labs, dining areas, hallways)
- Daily: vacuum and shampoo carpets in offices, hallways, and common areas
- Daily: wash windows (inside and outside) in entrance halls; dust office furniture and window sills
- Daily: clean public restrooms and showers; scour, disinfect, and deodorize toilets and sinks; wipe counters/vanities; polish mirrors; restock supplies
- Daily: empty trash cans; implement recycling procedures; collect and remove trash inside and around building perimeters
- As-needed: change light bulbs and clean light fixture lenses using ladders
- As-needed: set up and break down College events (e.g., 30+ 8FT tables, 350+ chairs); arrange tables, chairs, lecterns, podiums, dividers, platforms, coat racks, and table covers per work-order specifications
- As-needed: sweep dirt/leaves and shovel snow from walkways; spread sand within 3 feet of building entrances; set traps for rodents and relocate captured animals; spray insecticides inside/outside buildings
- As-needed: monitor and report cleaning supply needs or equipment repairs to Squad Leader; may act in Squad Leader’s absence or assist them
- Demonstrate commitment to inclusion and cultural awareness; participate in division-wide initiatives promoting the 7 Principles (Empathy, Fairness, Dependability, Inclusivity, Consideration, Vulnerability, Respect)
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 1–2 years of relevant experience
- Minimum 6 months to 1 year of experience in custodial, maintenance, or related work
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting/carrying light to medium objects
- Ability to work from ladders and step-ladders to clean/maintain light fixtures
- Experience operating and maintaining heavy industrial cleaning equipment (vacuums, powered scrubbers, buffers, carpet shampooers) and hand tools
- Knowledge of safe use of cleaning chemicals and insect control substances
- Familiarity with or ability to learn table/chair arrangements for event set-ups
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Must complete Hazard Communication and Blood Borne Pathogens training before performing related work
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others
