Custodial Worker (CYS) NA-02.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver sanitizing bleach solution for use in classrooms.
• Sanitize toys handled by children and replenish classroom supplies as required.
• Deliver program supplies and materials to classrooms.
• Empty diaper pails and/or trash, return food carts to the kitchen after meals and snacks.
• Clean up classroom accidents (e.g., child illness, toileting, water spills) that may pose a threat to child safety.
• Clean floors and tables after meals and snacks as required.
• Perform routine light cleaning and dusting of classrooms and activity areas.
• Collect soiled linens from classrooms, transport them to the laundry room, wash and dry using standard laundry machines, and return clean linens to classrooms.
• Make up cribs and launder staff uniforms as required.
• Maintain cleanliness of the laundry room and track inventory of staff uniforms.

Requirements

• Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
• Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for the position.
• A one-year probationary period may be required.
• Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
• Must successfully complete and maintain all required background checks, including a Child and Youth Tier 1 background investigation.
• A current health assessment is required, including immunizations and an annual flu vaccination.
• Position may include some evening or weekend hours.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
• Ability to dilute and use various cleaning and sanitizing solutions to disinfect items and remove stains from different surfaces.
• Ability to keep things neat, clean, and in order.
• Ability to follow instructions and speak and understand English.
• Ability to use and maintain required tools and equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops).

Physical Effort and Working Conditions

• Moderately heavy physical effort is occasionally required, including moving, setting up, and working from ladders and scaffolds.
• Use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial-type buffers) may be required but not on a continual basis.
• Occasionally lifts and moves objects weighing 40 pounds or more.
• Typically works indoors in areas with adequate heat, light, and ventilation.
• Continually exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and standing on concrete floors.
• May be exposed to skin irritations from cleaning solutions.
• Could be subject to falls from ladders or scaffolds.

Pay

This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. Employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week, whichever is more beneficial. Regular full-time, part-time, and flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible for extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours fall after 3:00 PM.
