About the Role
This position involves maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in a childcare environment to ensure the safety and well-being of children and staff.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver sanitizing bleach solution for use in classrooms.
- Sanitize toys and other items handled by children.
- Replenish classroom supplies as needed and deliver program supplies/materials to classrooms.
- Empty diaper pails and/or trash, return food carts to the kitchen after meals and snacks.
- Clean up after classroom accidents (e.g., child illness, toileting, water spills) that may pose a threat to child safety.
- Clean floors and tables after meals and snacks.
- Perform routine light cleaning and dusting of classrooms and activity areas.
- Pick up soiled linens from classrooms, transport them to the laundry room, and wash/dry them using standard laundry equipment.
- Return clean linens to classrooms and make up cribs.
- Launder staff uniforms and maintain inventory of uniforms as required.
- Clean the laundry room.
Requirements
- Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
- Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for the position.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
- Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
- Must successfully complete and maintain all required background checks, including a Child and Youth Tier 1 background investigation.
- A current health assessment is required, including immunizations and annual flu vaccination.
- Position may include some evening and/or weekend hours.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Ability to dilute and use various cleaning and sanitizing solutions to disinfect items and remove stains from different surfaces.
- Demonstrated ability to keep things neat, clean, and in order.
- Ability to follow instructions and speak/understand English.
- Ability to use and maintain required tools and equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops).
Physical Effort and Working Conditions
- Moderately heavy physical effort is occasionally required, including moving, setting up, and working from ladders and scaffolds.
- Use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial-type buffers) may be required but not on a continual basis.
- Occasionally lifts and moves objects weighing 40 pounds or more.
- Usually works indoors in areas with adequate heat, light, and ventilation.
- Continually exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and standing on concrete floors.
- May be exposed to skin irritations from cleaning solutions.
- Could be subject to falls from ladders or scaffolds.

Pay
This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. Overtime pay is earned for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week, whichever provides the greater benefit. Employees may also receive Sunday premium pay, extra pay for hours scheduled after 3:00 PM, and other differentials as applicable.
