Custodial Supervisor - Intercollegiate Athletics
About the role
The University of Missouri Department of Athletics is seeking a Custodial Supervisor responsible for overseeing daily custodial operations and maintaining assigned intercollegiate athletics facilities in a clean, safe, sanitary, and event-ready condition. This position supervises custodial staff, assigns and monitors work, conducts regular inspections, and coordinates custodial services for practices, competitions, events, and other athletics activities. The position also oversees custodial supplies and equipment, responds to facility and emergency cleaning needs, and collaborates with athletics and university personnel to support the operational needs of the department. The position works within established procedures and practices to achieve objectives, meet established deadlines, and maintain consistent standards of cleanliness and service. The Custodial Supervisor identifies routine operational issues and makes recommendations regarding staffing, resources, processes, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Custodial Staff Supervision and Operations (25%): Supervises, assigns, and coordinates the daily work of custodial staff within assigned intercollegiate athletics facilities. Establishes daily priorities and work assignments based on facility needs, schedules, events, and operational priorities. Spot-checks work frequently and reviews completed assignments for neatness, cleanliness, efficiency, safety, and overall results. Provides direction, instruction, and feedback to custodial staff to ensure established standards and expectations are met. Supports training and development of custodial staff regarding cleaning procedures, equipment operation, safety practices, and departmental expectations. Monitors staffing needs and recommends adjustments to assignments, schedules, resources, and processes as appropriate. Maintains effective working relationships with athletics personnel and related internal teams.
- Facility Cleaning and Quality Control (25%): Oversees and, as needed, performs routine custodial services including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, sanitizing, dusting, and general cleaning. Ensures restrooms, offices, hallways, common areas, team spaces, and other assigned athletics facilities are maintained to established cleanliness standards. Ensures restrooms are cleaned and disinfected and that soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and other supplies are appropriately replenished. Oversees the collection and disposal of trash and recycling and ensures appropriate replacement of liners. Ensures windows, furniture, walls, ceilings, light fixtures, vents, and other facility surfaces are appropriately cleaned and maintained. Responds to spills, accidents, and other emergency clean-up situations in a timely manner. Conducts routine facility inspections and addresses deficiencies to ensure facilities remain clean, presentable, and ready for student-athletes, staff, guests, and visitors.
- Event and Game Day Operations Support (20%): Coordinates custodial support for athletics events, practices, meetings, special activities, and other department functions. Ensures assigned facilities are appropriately cleaned and prepared before, during, and following events and competitions. Works events and games as needed, responding to changing custodial needs throughout the event. Coordinates the setup and breakdown of furniture, equipment, and other items associated with events and special activities. Adjusts custodial priorities and staffing assignments based on event schedules and facility requirements. Provides timely response to unexpected cleaning or facility needs during high-traffic events and competitions.
- Supplies, Equipment, Safety and Compliance (15%): Monitors custodial supplies and inventory and ensures adequate materials are available to meet daily and event-related needs. Maintains appropriate levels of cleaning supplies, restroom supplies, liners, and other custodial materials. Operates and ensures the safe and appropriate use of custodial equipment, including floor buffers, vacuums, wet/dry vacuums, and related equipment. Monitors the condition of custodial equipment and reports equipment needing repair or replacement. Ensures cleaning chemicals and supplies are properly labeled, stored, handled, and used in accordance with established procedures. Ensures custodial operations comply with applicable health, safety, sanitation, and organizational policies and procedures. Identifies and addresses potential safety hazards and supports a safe environment for student-athletes, staff, visitors, and guests. Performs occasional snow and ice removal from building entryways and other assigned areas as needed.
- Facility Support, Maintenance and Administrative Coordination (10%): Monitors assigned facilities for maintenance, repair, and operational issues and communicates concerns to the appropriate athletics or university personnel. Reports issues such as leaks, broken equipment, damaged fixtures, safety hazards, and other facility concerns. Coordinates with related internal teams to support timely resolution of routine facility and maintenance needs. Assists with locking and unlocking buildings or rooms according to established schedules and operational needs. Maintains work schedules, assignments, and other operational information as needed. Works within established procedures and practices to meet objectives, deadlines, and facility service expectations. Makes recommendations for improvements in custodial operations, efficiency, resource allocation, and service delivery.
- Other Duties (5%): Perform additional duties as assigned by Athletics administration. Ensure compliance with University, NCAA, and SEC rules, policies, and procedures.
Schedule
Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm; Nights and Weekends as required by events.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.
- Prior Supervisor experience is preferred.
Pay
Salary Range: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
