Custodial Services supports campus operations by maintaining clean, safe, and functional facilities across Missouri S&T. The department works in coordination with campus units to deliver daily custodial services, facility upkeep, and preparation of spaces for academic and operational use.

About the role

Supervises custodial staff. Performs routine tasks using existing procedures, practices, and techniques. Makes recommendations for improvement, efficiency, and resourcing as necessary. Uses standardized procedures to solve routine problems and maintain project schedules and budgets. Works within established deadlines and exchanges information in a straightforward manner to develop working relationships with internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision: Assess and organize daily workload for assigned buildings and custodial staff. Assign, instruct, and monitor work for adherence to cleanliness standards and safety practices. Train new employees in proper cleaning techniques. Address performance deficiencies and report issues to manager.
  • Customer Service: Ensure customer needs are met, including faculty, guests, staff, and students. Respond to questions, resolve complaints, and troubleshoot problems.
  • Operations: Inspect assigned areas to ensure cleanliness and safety expectations are met. Assist in identifying maintenance or repair needs and enter work requests in TMA system. Maintain inventory, order and distribute custodial equipment and supplies, and monitor equipment use and care. Work with department timekeepers and managers for staff time and labor accuracy. May participate in interviews for hiring hourly employees.
  • Safety: Prioritize safety with assigned staff and buildings. Train staff in safe work practices, including safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment. Follow procedures for reporting staff accidents and injuries. Monitor building security and report access control issues. Report potential safety problems and aid staff during emergencies such as fire alarms, severe weather, or campus threats. Actively participate in safety training.

Requirements

  • An Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient computer skills to operate programs such as Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to complete technical training within department scope.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience with proven team-leading abilities.
  • Work experience demonstrating initiative, responsibility, and professionalism.
  • Ability to occasionally work outside of a regular shift to meet business needs.

Pay

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $19.25–$26.87 hourly. Salary is determined by education, skills, experience, and organizational requirements.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM.
