Custodial Supervisor

About the role

This is a key member of the Buildings & Grounds team that supervises a group of custodians and also performs routine and non-routine custodial maintenance as part of a team assigned to specific buildings or areas on campus. The custodial supervisor position plays an important role in helping keep campus beautiful.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a group of custodians and facilitate custodial shift operations to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe environment for students, faculty/staff, and visitors on campus.
• Implement and maintain planned and established priorities and departmental policies and procedures.
• Train and orient new staff.
• Maintain departmental records such as daily attendance, reviewing and approving timesheets and time off requests, work assignments, maintenance/cleaning/service schedules, and work orders for repair or maintenance.
• Manage the custodial supply inventory.
• Facilitate conference and event set-ups and arrangements as planned.
• Handle employee performance situations/implement corrective actions as needed for Custodians.
• Arrange appropriate custodial team staffing based upon needs and absenteeism.
• May be involved in the hiring of new Custodians.
• Perform custodial and general maintenance duties in and around campus facilities.
• Respond to emergency calls for service.
• Implement setups and teardowns for a wide variety of campus and community events.
• Work closely with employees and students to meet the custodial needs of their designated areas.
• Resolve custodial-related problems to ensure efficient and safe operations.
• Supervise the emergency on-call services for Custodial Services.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
• At least 2 years of industrial or commercial cleaning experience is preferred.
• 1-3 years of prior supervisory or lead experience is strongly preferred.
• Must be energetic, a positive team player, and able to follow oral and written instructions.
• Physical requirements include the ability to frequently bend, kneel, stoop, push/pull, reach above and below shoulder height, climb ladders and stairs, and routinely lift and carry objects up to 25 lbs. unassisted and move objects up to 50 lbs. with assistance as needed.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must pass a criminal history background check.
