About the role

The Culinary Arts/Food Technology Instructor will contribute to the educational growth of students and support the College of the Desert's mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Meet classes/lab on day and times assigned
  • Develop and implement instruction for each class/lab period which is consistent with the official course outline
  • Demonstrate respect for student rights as specified in District policy and applicable laws
  • Evaluate students’ progress toward meeting course objectives; advise the students of course objectives, methods of evaluation and the results of the evaluation
  • Return assignments and examination results in a timely fashion
  • Assign grades to students in the manner provided by District policy and administrative procedure and prescribed by Ed Code and Title V regulations for the State of California
  • Abide by department regulations concerning the proper use, care, and security of equipment
  • Advise Supervisor of unsafe conditions or potential hazards and recommend solutions
  • Fulfill all obligations as established in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Participate in the process of shared governance by contributing to the academic community through committee work on the department division, college and/or district level, or participate in other significant non-classroom college, district, or community activities

Requirements

  • Any bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience. Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master’s degree.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience
  • Directly related professional experience to the teaching assignment
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

Skills

  • Ability to develop and implement instruction for each class/lab period
  • Ability to evaluate students’ progress and assign grades
  • Ability to abide by department regulations concerning the proper use, care, and security of equipment
  • Ability to participate in the process of shared governance

Salary Placement is according to the CODAA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
