Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education Social Work, or related field and/or H.S. diploma and related experience.

Possession of a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License and safe driving record in accordance with WORK INC policy.

An acceptable CORI and SDIP.

Essential Functions

  • Helps people grow through their life experiences.
  • Creates opportunities for people to form relationships with non-disabled individuals.
  • Affords assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and proper hygiene.
  • Affords assistance and engagement in meal preparation.
  • Affords engagement in meaningful social activities in their home environment.
  • Taught independent living skills.
  • Provides resources and opportunities for people to express their ethnic and cultural background.
  • Fulfills medical recommendations to ensure a healthy lifestyle.
  • Fulfills existing treatment programs.
  • Fulfills emergency protocols including conducting fire drills as directed.
  • Ensures the health and safety of each individual.
  • Affords help in crisis situations.
  • Affords social integration into the community.
  • Affords encouragement for people to express their wishes, dreams, and desires.
  • Affords support in achieving personal goals.
  • Collects necessary data to demonstrate the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Affords assistance in accessing community resources.
  • Affords participation in the development of individual service plans.
  • Affords attendance at in-service training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Affords regular supervision.
  • Affords cleaning and maintenance of the facility and grounds as assigned, including necessary snow removal.
  • Affords transportation to and from day programs and other destinations, as needed.
  • Affords administration of medication according to the DPH regulations (MAP) and maintains certification to administer First Aid and CPR when indicated, and to maintain certifications.

Mathematical Skills

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Create and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability

  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical data in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Communication Demands

  • The ability to read, analyze, and interpret journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • The ability to respond to common inquiries and complaints.
  • The ability to effectively present information to the Board of Directors, employees, program participants, and members of the business community.
  • The ability to effectively communicate with families/guardians and funding agencies and ancillary services.

Environmental Demands

  • The work is performed in a non-smoking environment.
  • The work is normally performed in a temperature controlled zone, however, there are exceptions.

Physical Demands

  • Continuous: Sitting, talking, standing, hearing.
  • Frequent: Reaching, walking, climbing stairs, pushing, pulling, lifting.
  • Occasional: Bending, stooping.

General Requirements

  • Good standing balance, defined as the ability to stand and walk without a loss of balance.
  • Full upper extremity range of motion, defined as the ability to obtain: Full shoulder flexion, extension, abduction, and rotation; Full elbow flexion, extension, supination and pronation; Full wrist flexion, extension, radial and ulnar deviation.
  • Normal upper extremity strength, defined as the ability to move the specified body part through a full range of motion against maximum resistance.
  • Full lower extremity range of motion, defined as the ability to obtain: Full hip flexion, extension, abduction, adduction and rotation; Full knee flexion and extension; Full ankle flexion and extension.
  • Normal lower extremity strength, defined as the ability to move the specified body part through a full range of motion against maximum resistance.
  • Full trunk range of motion as defined by the ability to obtain full flexion and extension, rotation and side bending.
  • Full cervical range of motion as defined by the ability to obtain full flexion and extension, lateral flexion and rotation.
