About the role

Provide diagnostic Computed Tomography (CT) services to inpatients, outpatients, and Emergency Department patients under the direction of the supervising radiologist, following established operating procedures and clinical protocols. Deliver safe, prompt, efficient, and cost-effective CT services.

Responsibilities

  • Position patients correctly using proper immobilization techniques.
  • Perform optimal scans using correct technical factors, shielding, and protocols based on patient diagnosis, history, and other relevant clinical information.
  • Use correct technical factors in accordance with the American College of Radiology (ACR) to minimize radiation exposure while obtaining diagnostic scans.
  • Perform CT angiography, 3D imaging, MIPS, VR, vessel analysis, and MPRs; post-process computer data to enhance exams for radiologist interpretation using appropriate reconstruction software.
  • Follow correct CT Department Technologist workflow: select the correct scan room, identify and document two forms of patient identification, acquire history, verify orders, scan patient, send images to PACS, scan all paperwork and data sheets (e.g., history sheet, med-reconciliation sheets), complete the case in Meditech, address QA issues, charge for contrast media and supplies.
  • Verify all images, series, and data sheets are sent to PACS; ensure the correct number of images; verify exams with images and archive images on the scanner.
  • Operate support equipment for CT, including independent workstations, pressure injectors, PACS, and EPIC systems.
  • Initiate IVs for administration of contrast media in accordance with department policy and standard precautions; must obtain IV certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Prepare patients for exams by explaining procedures, encouraging questions, and addressing patient concerns.
  • Transport patients to and from departments as necessary; assist in transferring patients on and off the CT table; continually monitor patient condition during CT procedures.
  • Document and charge for supplies used during exams; modify and initiate charges as procedure modifications are made per radiologist or ordering physician.
  • Document allergic reactions, IV extravasations, or unusual occurrences; initiate incident reports for staff or patient situations.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of medical supplies; perform and document daily quality assurance scans on all scanners to ensure safety.
  • Promote patient safety by reporting issues through established channels and participating in safety initiatives as requested.
  • Initiate requests for emergency medical support as indicated by patient condition; recognize when to call a Code Blue or Rapid Response.
  • Report to work on time and ready to start; maintain confidentiality of all patient and other information; demonstrate teamwork and cooperation.

Requirements

  • Registered in Radiography (R) – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Registered in Computed Tomography (CT) within 1 year – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Licensed Radiologic Technologist – Radiography – Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).
  • Certificate of Completion in Radiologic Technology or College Diploma in a related field.

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $35.50 per hour to $61.06 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors such as experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
