Job Overview
Performs duties directly involved with a variety of CAT Scan procedures. Prioritizes the patient as number one, and to put forth the utmost quality as a CT Technologist.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of an A.M.A. approved school of Radiography Education.
- Must have ARRT or CRT and State of New Jersey License.
Preferred Experience: Three years hospital experience as a staff technologist preferred, with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Positions patient to obtain study as prescribed by standard operating procedures.
- Able to position all anatomical parts as indicated by the Standard Operating Procedures.
- Performs the preparation in order to insure the prompt commencement of the procedure.
- Ensures all necessary equipment is at hand prior to starting the ordered examination.
- Under the direction of a Radiologist, instructs and administers cleansing preps and contrast agents.
- Protects patients and other personnel by administrating proper radiation protection techniques.
- Protects the reproductive organs with appropriate apparel, if visualization of these areas is not required.
- Transfers and properly position patients for examinations in order to obtain desired radiographic results according to physician specifications.
- Assists physicians in performance of examinations.
- As outlined in radiology policy and procedure and under the direction of the medical chairman the technologist will have proven competency in the administration of IV contrast media, to include venipuncture.
- Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination.
- Secures and returns supplies. Maintains room and room’s stock.
- Responsible for necessary equipment maintenance recommendations and troubleshooting when indicated.
- Keeps all necessary equipment maintenance logs which pertain to preventative maintenance of Emergency service.
- Makes sure all necessary supplies are in room and restocks room accordingly.
- Responsible for patient scheduling and smooth flow of schedule and patient preparation including contrast administration.
- Responsible for quality control of Cat scan examinations.
- Uses the computer system according to standard operating procedures: Able to enter studies in RIS and HIS, and track cases. Able to split and fix studies in PACS as necessary.
- Attends in-service training as required by the department.
- Explains procedures to the patient and answers any questions prior to the commencement of the procedures.
- Completes all necessary paperwork/documentation prior to the submitting of the procedure for interpretation.
- Assists in the instruction of student technologists.
