Job Summary

This position requires performing a variety of procedures utilizing a computer assisted tomography scanner to visualize internal anatomy on different patient populations. It involves supporting the Frederick Health mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy, adhering to compliance programs, and following regulatory requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Selects proper technical settings and scan protocols from the computer menu.
  • Transmits images to PACS for interpretation and permanent record.
  • Aids radiologists during CT guided biopsy and aspiration procedures.
  • Evaluates CT scans with the radiologist.
  • Maintains equipment status to prevent damage.
  • Performs daily quality control checks of the CT scanner.
  • Interviews and screens patients regarding sensitivity to contrast material.
  • Determines the volume of contrast material to be administered.
  • Administers oral and IV contrast material.
  • Applies standard precautions and sterile technique.
  • Ensures patient records are complete and signed before examination completion.
  • Executes tasks associated with PACS and HIS systems.
  • Screens patients for pregnancy.
  • Applies and properly uses radiation protection according to prescribed safety standards.
  • Optimizes imaging exams to use only the necessary radiation for diagnostic quality imaging.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Minimum of two years of CT scanning experience.
  • Capable of working independently.
  • Excellent customer relations skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Keyboard/computer skills.
  • Ability to manage stressful work with patients having potentially disabling or terminal conditions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve minor equipment problems.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to contrast medium reactions.

Minimum Education, Training, And Experience

  • Graduate of JRCERT approved program in Radiologic Technology.
  • MD Stat Certification as a Medical Radiation Technologist.
  • Certification by ARRT in Computed Tomography.
  • CPR required.

Patient Contact

  • Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in various age groups.

Physical Demands

  • Medium-Heavy Work – Lifting up to 100 pounds on an infrequent basis and/or carrying up to 50 pounds while walking.
  • Pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).
  • Repetition: Repeating the same motion repeatedly places stress on the muscles and tendons.
  • Forceful Exertion: The amount of physical effort required to perform a task (such as moving patients) or to maintain control of equipment or tools.
  • Awkward Posture: Posture is the position your body is in and its effect on the muscle groups that engage in the physical activity. Awkward postures include reaching, twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting, working overhead with your hands or arms, or holding fixed positions.
  • Contact Stress: Pressing the body hard on sharp edges can result in placing too much pressure on nerves, tendons, and blood vessels. For example, using the palm of your hand to hit or stick objects can increase risk of musculoskeletal disorders.

Pay

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. If the position is part-time, salary will be pro-rated based on scheduled hours. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid, if applicable. Hourly Range: $39.91 - $57.20.
