About the role
The District Jury Coordinator is responsible for coordinating jury activities in an assigned district, ensuring the courts are supplied with adequate jurors in a timely manner. This role involves answering questions from court staff, litigants, attorneys, and the public regarding complex statutory requirements and legal processes governing jury services.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a small staff and manage employee performance
- Plan, organize, direct and evaluate the work of assigned staff to ensure compliance with court policies and procedures
- Conduct staff meetings; establish performance goals; regularly monitor performance and provide coaching and training for performance improvement and development; prepare performance evaluations and provide feedback to improve performance; recommend disciplinary action, when necessary
- Perform jury coordinator duties in assigned court locations
- Answer questions from jurors, the public and court personnel regarding jury service policies, relevant statutes and procedures, requiring the interpretation of jury service requirements and procedures
- Order the number of jurors required for trials; process affidavits; excuse potential jurors and defer jury service as appropriate; conduct juror orientation; disperse jurors to assigned courts based upon type and status of cases; project the approximate time jurors will be available to the court when recycling of jurors is required; provide train tickets, bus passes and parking validation to jurors as needed
- Congnorate jury impanelment
- Receive and process a variety of complex jury service documents; review documents for completeness and reject incomplete documents; send documents to other desks for further action as required
- Access computerized case management systems and databases to retrieve information; make complex updates to records in the jury management system; generate reports, documents and activity printouts; scan, index and verify documents
- Create forms to be used by department staff to improve service and productivity
- Plan events for Juror Appreciation Week
- Conduct interviews of prospective jurors to determine English proficiency
- Prepare accident and Workers’ Compensation reports for jurors
- Provide assistance and reasonable accommodations to jurors with ADA issues
- Perform other court-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience performing court service duties and functions, two years of which were performing full-time jury related duties and functions in Juror Services or a District Jury office at the level of Court Services Assistant II
- United States Citizenship
