CRSS Intern - Drop In Centers

About the Internship

This non-paid internship uses a developmental learning approach to provide interns with knowledge and skills in evidence-based practices for supporting individuals undergoing treatment and recovery from substance use and mental health disorders. Initially, interns will have limited responsibilities and receive close supervision, mentoring, and intensive instruction. As they progress, they will gradually gain autonomy while still receiving ongoing supervision and consultation.

The internship offers up to 300 hours with no more than 30 hours per week. It includes weekly hour logs signed by both intern and supervisor, an individualized internship plan, and required supervision and performance evaluations.

Responsibilities

• Engage and support clients in their recovery through motivational interviewing and motivational enhancement techniques.
• Work with clients to develop a Recovery Plan that addresses their comprehensive needs.
• Use client-centered and self-directed approaches to recovery planning.
• Meet with clients at least once a week to ensure implementation of the Wellness Plan.
• Assist clients in accessing other services, both on and offsite, to meet their additional needs.
• Link clients to recovery support services delivered in a manner consistent with CRSS competencies.
• Collaborate with clients to engage family members in recovery planning.
• Monitor client progress.
• Manage, track, and update individual wellness portfolios.
• Ensure sustained recovery post-treatment.
• Demonstrate strong documentation skills.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Peer Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS/CPRS) program seeking internship opportunities.
• Currently qualified to enter into an internship opportunity with a school agreement and has completed required courses that validate all time spent in this opportunity.
