Position Summary
We are seeking a Crop Supervisor to represent the company in the primary capsicum producing areas of the Southwest as well as global origins. The responsibilities include activities related to the contracting, planting, growing and harvesting of the crops to support the processing facilities and the company production plan.
Position Responsibilities
- Select and distribute planting seed and supervise the planting activity.
- Prepare planting summaries, area maps and field maps.
- Monitor crop progress, quality, field conditions and yield estimates.
- Supervise weed control, fertilization, irrigation, pest control and disease management.
- Communicate with growers and outside processors.
- Maintain and update the crop growing guide for the area.
- Support global sourcing initiatives for capsicums and vegetables.
- Monitor competitor activities and crop costs in the area.
- Operate and maintain company provided vehicle.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in horticulture, entomology, plant breeding, crop science, agri-business, farm management or related field (preferred).
- In lieu of degree, five (5) years of equitable experience will be accepted.
- Valid Driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
- Previous work experience in crop culture, crop harvesting or related experience is preferred.
- Strong communication, both verbal and written, is required.
- Bilingual, English/Spanish is strongly preferred.
- Strong planning and general management skills are required.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and Word are required.
- Able to work independently with little direct supervision is required.
- Able to work in extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold is required.
- Able to carry/lift items up to 50 pounds is required.
- Desire to travel for work is required.
