Classification Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience working on an agricultural operation, including supervision of others. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required years of experience.

About the Role

Leads agricultural operations, crop production, equipment maintenance, and farm crew supervision. Coordinates with research staff and maintains operational records.

Responsibilities

  • Leads land preparation including disking, harrowing, leveling, and field setup using GPS systems.
  • Oversees field setup including fumigation, laying plastic mulch, and installation of irrigation equipment.
  • Manages season-end crop termination, removal of plastic mulch, twine, and planting of cover crops.
  • Ensures calibration and maintenance of spray equipment.
  • Supervises farm crews during crop maintenance operations and ensures proper training.
  • Oversees crop production including pest control, fertilizer application, irrigation, and crop maintenance.
  • Assists with coordination of labs to ensure successful harvest of research crops.
  • Implements maintenance programs for farm and irrigation equipment.
  • Provides guidance on routine repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.
  • Coordinates cleaning of equipment and work areas to maintain sanitary conditions.
  • Ensures cleanliness, orderliness, and maintenance of all work and storage areas.
  • Consults with research staff in planning crop production and research activities.
  • Maintains records and reports regarding farm conditions, machinery, and operational issues.
  • Conducts hiring, training, and supervision of OPS and new Ag Assistant I and II members of the farm crew.
  • Trains interns on tractor safety, operation, and calibration of spray equipment.
  • Provides support for field days and farm tours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including assisting with center events and being on call for emergencies at all hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience working on an agricultural operation, including supervision of others.
  • Pesticide license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience working on an IFAS REC center agricultural field.

Pay

$50,000 commensurate with experience and education.
