Critical Care Technician-Emergency Room (DEB)-Full Time-Night

About the Role

Provides safety aspects of patient care, including assisting with patient restraints, using correct transfer techniques, following falls precautions, and responding appropriately to emergency situations. Delivers personal care such as bathing, mouth care, evening care, and incontinence care under the direction of an RN. Applies basic dressings, slings, splints, anti-embolism, and sequential pressure stockings as directed. Collects and processes specimens (stool, urine, sputum) and manages ostomy and other device bags efficiently. Records accurate intake and output per unit standards and supports patient nutrition by feeding, monitoring tube feedings, delivering nourishment, and counting calories.

Makes pertinent patient observations, documents findings accurately and timely, and reports to the RN. Assists with post-mortem care, CPR under RN or physician supervision, phlebotomy, glucometer testing, EKGs, and vital signs/pulse oximetry. Stocks supplies, maintains a clean and organized environment, and performs other duties as assigned. Maintains logs for patient and medication refrigerators, checks and signs Unit Code Carts, and reports malfunctioning defibrillators.

Responsibilities

• Collect and process specimens (stool, urine, sputum) in a timely manner.
• Empty and clean ostomy and other device bags efficiently.
• Record accurate intake and output per unit standards.
• Support patient nutrition: feed, monitor tube feedings, deliver nourishment, and count calories.
• Make and document accurate patient observations; report findings to RN.
• Assist with post-mortem care and CPR under RN or physician supervision.
• Perform phlebotomy, glucometer testing, EKGs, and vital signs/pulse oximetry.
• Stock supplies and maintain a clean, organized environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned, adapting to changing department needs.
• Maintain patient and medication refrigerator logs.
• Check and sign Unit Code Carts for operational performance each shift.
• Notify clinical equipment and charge nurse of malfunctioning defibrillators.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• One year of prior experience as an EMT, military medic, PCA in acute care, or equivalent skill in long-term care; completion of a medical assistant program; or successful completion of two clinical semesters of an accredited nursing school.
• AHA BLS certification (must obtain before the end of the orientation period if not already certified).
• Proficiency in English, both verbal and written communication.
• Certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) preferred. In lieu of CNA certification, successful completion of the Capital Health UAP Training program within 90 days of employment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Frequent physical demands: Sitting, standing, walking, carrying objects, pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching forward, reaching overhead, squatting/kneeling/crawling.
• Occasional physical demands: Climbing (e.g., stairs or ladders), wrist position deviation, pinching/fine motor activities, keyboard use/repetitive motion.
• Continuous physical demands: Talking or hearing.
• Lifting requirements: Floor to waist: 80 lbs; waist level and above: 85 lbs.
• Sensory requirements: Very accurate 20/40 near and far vision, color discrimination, accurate depth perception, accurate hearing.
• Anticipated occupational exposure risks: Bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne communicable diseases, uneven surfaces or elevations, extreme noise levels, dust/particulate matter.

Pay

Pay range: $18.57 - $23.23 per hour for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may differ based on assigned hours and position status (e.g., part-time).

Schedule

Scheduled weekly hours: 36.

Usual work day: 8 hours.
