About the role

The Progressive Care Education Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, execution, and monitoring of clinical education for the Progressive Care Unit. This includes developing and implementing department-specific orientation programs and assisting in hospital-wide general orientation. The coordinator also plans and implements on-going continuing education requirements for staff and educates about changes in or additions to practice or procedure.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements department specific orientation programs and assists in hospital wide general orientation.
  • Plans and implements on-going continuing education requirements for staff as well as education regarding changes in or additions to practice or procedure.
  • Provides opportunities for staff to expand their professional development and designs evidence-based education that benefits both the clinician and the organization.
  • Collaborates with the quality department and other members of leadership to develop, implement, and monitor performance improvement activities.
  • Coordinates and provides education to increase awareness and skill levels in order to facilitate positive patient outcomes, safety, and both employee and patient satisfaction.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors the department specific orientation program.
  • Coordinates and evaluates progress in completing department orientation for each new employee.
  • Treats patients, staff, and families with respect and dignity, and routinely evaluates the effectiveness of educational programs offered.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors annual education competencies for the department.
  • Maintains expert level knowledge of patient care practices in applicable departments and provides direct patient care when needed.
  • Works collaboratively with other Education Coordinators in the facility and the Human Resources department to ensure consistency in documentation and record keeping for educational requirements.
  • Maintains education compliance and completion and reports deficiencies to the respective department manager.
  • Acts as a leader of the department, supporting the manager and other members of leadership as a liaison with patients, physicians, and employees to facilitate communication, increase satisfaction, and ultimately ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Develops and reviews policies and procedures as assigned.
  • Provides education to staff regarding process and policy updates.
  • Provides routine performance feedback while educating staff, provides input to the department manager regarding staff progress on orientation and performance.
  • Engages effectively with all stakeholders, e.g., physicians, staff, outside contractors, and the people served.
  • Initiates and supports problem-solving groups that proactively resolve issues within nursing services.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized, and function in stressful situations.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current license by the state of Nebraska as a registered nurse.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred or ADN and enrolled in a BSN program within six months of hire; Master’s Degree in Nursing or other applicable field preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of acute care nursing experience is required; an additional two (2) years of experience in an education role or formal training in education preferred.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certification required (or within 90 days of hire).
  • PCCN certification preferred.
