About the role
The Department of Anesthesiology at VCU Health seeks a dedicated physician to provide comprehensive anesthetic and critical care services to patients. This role involves preanesthetic evaluations, intraoperative care, postoperative rounds, resuscitation, intensive care, and therapeutic/diagnostic nerve blocks. The successful candidate will also direct the activities of nurse anesthetists as needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical anesthesiology care to patients in operating rooms and ambulatory areas as directed by the Department Chair or delegate.
- Supervise and direct Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) as appropriate.
- Direct anesthesia care in other critical care areas of the medical center.
- Teach residents, medical students, student nurse anesthetists, and others “bedside” clinical teaching.
- Participate in didactic teaching programs and attend conferences, rounds, and staff meetings as required.
- Pursue clinical or laboratory research and other scholarly interests within the guidelines of the institution and department.
- Serve on various departmental, school of medicine, university, or VCU Health System committees as requested.
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree
- ABOBA eligible/certified in Anesthesiology and/or certified/eligible for Critical Care Certification
- Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia
- Eligible for employment in the United States
- Good communication, clinical, and teaching skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students
Benefits
The position offers a salary commensurate with experience and is exempt from overtime pay. It is not an open rank position and is not restricted or ORP eligible. The position is full-time with 12 months of service.
