Crisis Center Recovery Coach/Peer Support Specialist (26-110)

About the role
As part of a multidisciplinary team-based service, this role will provide interventions for clients experiencing a behavioral health crisis and assist clients in understanding and accessing substance use disorder or mental health services. The Recovery Coach or Peer Support Specialist will model competency in recovery and demonstrate ongoing coping skills within the Crisis Center, which includes a Brief Intervention Clinic and Crisis Stabilization Unit.
Responsibilities
- Provide interventions for clients experiencing a behavioral health crisis.
- Assist clients in understanding and accessing substance use disorder or mental health services.
- Model competency in recovery and demonstrate ongoing coping skills.
- Work effectively in a multicultural environment and bridge language/cultural barriers to services within diverse communities.
- Establish effective relationships with clients, their families, and team members.
- Utilize computer skills for word processing, spreadsheets, email, electronic health records, and data entry.
Requirements
Crisis Center Recovery Coach
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years old.
- At least two years of relevant work experience; may include volunteer work.
- Actively working in a recovery program (12-step, church/spiritual, or other recovery support group).
- State of Michigan Certified Peer Recovery Coach or be eligible and obtain certification within ninety (90) days of hire, which requires:
- Long-term, stable recovery from alcohol and other drugs.
- Able to identify with other individuals based on shared life experiences to promote recovery by removing barriers and obstacles.
- Has been a recipient of mental health and/or substance use services for at least one year, with a substantial life disruption due to their substance use condition.
- Personal experience with navigating complex substance use treatment services.
- Knowledge and skills sufficient for establishing effective relationships with clients who have a substance use disorder, their families, and team members.
- Knowledge about substance use disorders as it pertains to recovery and crisis planning.
- Basic computer skills.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Good problem-solving skills.
Crisis Center Peer Support Specialist
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- State of Michigan Certified Peer Support Specialist or be eligible to become certified within 90 days of hire, which requires:
- Primary diagnosis of a mental health condition, or
- Strong personal knowledge of first-hand lived experience with a mental health condition that has caused a substantial life disruption, or
- Has been a recipient of mental health treatment and/or services for at least one year, with a substantial life disruption due to their mental health condition, or
- Personal experience in navigating complex mental health treatment services.
- Knowledge about mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders as well as recovery and crisis intervention.
- Computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, electronic health record, and data entry skills.
- Solid communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
Schedule
This position is 30 hours a week, working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM.
Pay
Compensation: $17.24 - $22.86 hourly. The final job offer is based on several factors (internal equity, skills, education, experience, and credentials). Additional compensation includes a 10% premium pay, $4-$6 for 3rd shift, and weekend differential.
