Crisis Center Clinician - 36 hours Fri-Sun 10am-10pm (26-125)

About the role

The Crisis Center Clinician provides crisis intervention, assessments, therapy, and referral services for adults presenting to the Behavioral Health Crisis Center, which includes a walk‑in Brief Intervention Clinic and a secure Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). Services are delivered in various settings via face‑to‑face contact or telehealth (video or telephonic). The 24/7 facility serves adults 18 years and older, offering assessment and unscheduled clinical care aimed at preventing or resolving mental health or substance‑related crises, with the goal of diverting individuals from jail, emergency departments, and inpatient psychiatric hospitals to the least restrictive appropriate treatment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct crisis interventions, assessments, therapy, and make referrals for adults in crisis.
• Provide services in the Brief Intervention Clinic and Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU).
• Deliver care through face‑to‑face contact or telehealth (video or telephonic).
• Assess and address mental health and substance‑related crises, aiming to resolve them within a few hours or up to 72 hours when needed.
• Work to divert individuals from jail, emergency departments, and inpatient psychiatric settings to appropriate least‑restrictive treatment when safe and feasible.
• Maintain accurate documentation and utilize electronic health record systems.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or Counseling Psychology.
• Certification or licensure in the State of Michigan as a Limited Licensed Master Social Worker, professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, or psychologist; OR be eligible for such licensure and obtain it within three (3) months of hire.
• Thorough working knowledge of psychological, emotional, and sociological assessment and diagnosis principles.
• Thorough working knowledge of professional ethics and standards of practice.
• Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for job‑related use.
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and rationally.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email, database management, electronic health record, and data entry.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in stressful situations; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and skills to bridge language/cultural barriers to serve diverse communities.

Qualifications

• Licensed Master Social Worker (preferred).
• Lived experience with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders is valued.
