Crewmember
About the Role
This position is responsible for lawn maintenance and landscaping tasks including lawn mowing, clean-ups, mulching, trimming, landscape maintenance, pruning, fertilization, weed control, planting of trees and shrubs, flower installation, leaf clean-ups, and similar duties. Employees will safely and efficiently complete landscape enhancement projects on assigned properties.
Responsibilities
- Operate equipment such as skid steer, excavator, backhoe, and other landscaping machinery.
- Carry out landscape maintenance functions, with an emphasis on spraying weed control and other chemical applications requiring licensure.
- Store, transport, mix, and apply chemicals in accordance with the law.
- Follow installation instructions and plans with the Crew Leader and Operations Manager.
- Assist in loading and unloading equipment, tools, and supplies on trucks.
- Comply with the equipment preventative maintenance program; clean used equipment and store it in designated areas daily.
- Perform all job-related tasks safely and efficiently, using tools and equipment in accordance with company safety policy.
- Assist in keeping job sites, vehicles, trailers, warehouses, and offices safe, clean, and organized.
- Inform supervisor of problem areas on site, equipment or supply issues, or any accident or loss.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements, especially in handling equipment.
- Work to assure quality and timely completion of all assigned tasks.
- Participate in training programs as required.
- May be required to safely transport crew members to and from sites in a company vehicle.
- Perform daily tasks including mowing, edging, trimming, planting, fertilizing, watering, detailing ornamental vegetation, weeding, spraying, cleaning hard surfaces, tree care, sod installation, masonry materials, excavating, raking, and assisting with irrigation or masonry installation.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Able to read architectural drawings and follow plans as shown on property maps.
- Dependable; consistently arrives to work on time, responds to management direction, and commits to required hours for job completion, which vary based on weather/season.
- Organized, hardworking, safety-conscious, punctual, self-motivated, honest, and customer service-driven.
- Effectively communicates with others, with the ability to read and/or comprehend written and verbal instructions/information.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
- Accountable; demonstrates dependability in attendance and timeliness, and carefully follows directions and instructions provided.
- Solutions-oriented with the ability to apply feedback to improve performance.
- Capable of working safely alone and displaying quality and thoroughness in work product.
- Ability to teach and train new laborers.
- Must have transportation to and from the designated meeting location.
- Must maintain a professional appearance at all times, respecting the uniform code and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in landscape installation.
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Holds, at a minimum, a State Technician and/or Applicator license per local requirement.
Environmental Considerations
- Works outdoors in various weather conditions, which may be hot, cold, wet, or windy.
- Operates in environments with high noise levels.
- Works with and near moving mechanical parts.
- May be exposed to hazardous materials, fumes, or airborne particles such as gasoline, oil, grease, herbicides, pesticides, or other horticulture-related products.
- Works on uneven terrain for extended periods.
- Work may be performed at various heights above the ground.
- May be exposed to nature, including irritating plants and stinging or biting insects.
- May be exposed to dogs and other animals.
- Must have the stamina to perform tasks throughout an 8-10 hour standard day.
- Must be able to work long hours and extra hours during emergencies, including holidays, weekends, and subject to call-outs.
Physical Requirements
- Must have the capacity and endurance to perform tasks for at least 8 hours.
- Must understand and demonstrate proper safety procedures, complying with all OSHA regulations and responding to emergency situations promptly.
- Must maintain attention and concentration for long periods.
- Must be able to wear PPE as needed.
- Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle multiple times a day.
Frequency of Physical Demands:
- Rarely (less than 10%): Crawling, climbing poles, ladders.
- Occasionally (up to 33%): Sitting, looking into the distance, climbing stairs, lifting between 10-50 pounds.
- Frequently (up to 66%): Sense of touch, speaking clearly, getting in and out of the truck, reading, hearing within speech range, depth perception, pushing, pulling, balancing, lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Continuously (67%-100%): Walking, standing, manual dexterity, bending, range of motion, kneeling, squatting, twisting the body, grasping, seeing, reaching, color vision, lifting, carrying, lifting up to 10 pounds.
