About the role

The Crew Lead - Data Center Services will support both the Physical and Virtual Infrastructure of the organization and its facilities. This role drives data center best practices and industry standards into working processes and procedures, acting as the on-site coordinator and crew supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Directly support and coordinate all scheduled data center MACs (Moves, Adds, Changes) based on the DCIT calendar event scheduling.
  • Implement cable work order (CWO) MACs, testing and certification, and assist with crafting LV (Low Voltage) project BOM (Bill of Materials) and scope documents.
  • Perform asset auditing and maintain daily error logs.
  • Provide equipment installation MACs, including device labeling, power connectivity, LV cable connectivity, and proper cable dressing.
  • Offer smart-hands assistance as required.
  • Maintain a safe and secure operating environment within the data center; report any violations to DCIT immediately.
  • Create concise, detailed documentation and record-keeping for asset installation layout, cable plant patch matrix, cable labeling standards, etc.
  • Maintain the secure hard drive disk (HDD) bin and log, ensuring compliance with retention practices and notifying DCIT as required.
  • Handle ticketing and service calls.
  • Coordinate equipment/material receiving, shipping, and RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) processing support.
  • Provide general cleaning of raised floors, cabinet/rack exteriors, work benches, and other areas weekly.
  • Troubleshoot layer-1 suspected cable plant issues related to networking, storage, and general power distribution.
  • Develop, document, and monitor performance measures and processes for audit and operational compliance related to data center best practices and industry standards, including ISO 27001/9001 and TIA/EIA-942 certifications.
  • Support standard and emergency operating procedures for the data center.
  • Ensure maintenance schedules align with industry best practices and are reviewed annually.
  • Provide status reporting on data center service availability, performance, and capacity utilization as required.
  • Maintain daily error log reporting and conduct physical DC inspections for general health, power, cooling, and hazards.
  • Coordinate equipment installation and delivery schedules in accordance with project plans.
  • Participate in and provide key input for data center expansion, migration, and decommissioning plans.

Tools

  • Basic Hand Tools: Screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, cable stripper, flashlight, and gloves.
  • Trade Tools: Punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, Krone/3M/BIX, butt set, volt-ohmmeter, 4-pair continuity tester, and 5-gang punch tool.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience working in data centers relative to the datacom/telecom industry, operations, administration, or a related technical field.
  • General knowledge of telecom/IP equipment and software configurations.
  • Basic understanding of AC/DC power principles.
  • Strong aptitude for an independent working environment and high productivity rate.
  • Ability to act as the company liaison for interfacing with customer representatives.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and the ability to effectively read, write, and give oral presentations.
  • Ability to work at heights, off ladders, and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship skills.
  • Regular attendance is mandatory.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field.
  • Network, storage, or server certifications are a plus.
  • Ability to terminate fiber.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of supervisory and/or managerial experience.
  • Proven skill in using the tools listed above.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and MS Project).
  • Must meet company minimum driving standards.

Pay

Minimum USD $30.00/Hr. Maximum USD $35.00/Hr.

Schedule

100% travel required.
