About the role
Tectonic's Corporate Orange County, NY Office is currently seeking an experienced Crew Chief to work full-time on a variety of exciting projects throughout the NY and NYC Metro areas. We provide sponsorship to help successful candidates gain entry into the applicable union.
Responsibilities
- Operating survey instruments such as total stations, data collectors, GPS, and other standard survey equipment
- Collecting information required to carry out new surveys using source maps, previous survey data, photographs, computer records, and other relevant information
- The compilation of information necessary to stake projects for construction using engineering plans
- Conducting surveys to determine the locations of natural features and man-made structures on the Earth's surface, underground, and underwater using electronic distance measuring equipment and other surveying instruments
- Direction and supervision of day-to-day work of subordinate members of surveying parties
- Laying out grids, determining horizontal and vertical controls
- Maintaining survey equipment and vehicles
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 5+ years of surveying experience with a strong working knowledge of surveying equipment
- Detail oriented, with the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
- Knowledge of Leica Robotics and 3D Scanners, Carlson GPS equipment a plus
- Ability to review/understand written civil construction and architectural plans and specifications
- Availability to work overtime as needed
- Must possess a HS Diploma or equivalent; AAS in Surveying a plus
- Possession of or ability to obtain 40 Hour NYC SST Card, which includes OSHA 30 Hour Construction Safety Certification. 8 Hour Fall Protection, 2 Hour Drug and Alcohol, and applicable scaffolding training certifications
- Valid, clean driver's license is required
Physical Requirements
- Constantly required to assume a stationary position for prolonged periods of time
- Frequent handling of inspect, and/or feel documents, materials, and/or equipment relevant to the job
- Frequent communication using the Corporate e-mail and telephone systems
- Frequent movement around on the job-site, including ascending or descending the landscape
- Occasionally lifting and/or moving equipment up to 75 lbs.
- Regular operation of a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time
