Position Summary
The Land Surveying Crew Chief (Senior Field Technician) briefs and debriefs field crews, process field notes and data, retrace or survey property boundaries, write reports, and draft maps. This position ensures accuracy of information collected and reported and makes critical judgement calls while in the field to provide quality field data collection within the scope of the project.
Essential Functions
- Provide weekly progress reports.
- Aid in and identify process improvements.
- Afford a subset of tasks for project planning including pricing, planning, estimation, and coordination of tasks for a project.
- Lead field efforts with Clients, Project Managers, Managers, Surveyors, and others solving issues and challenges that arise in the field.
- Take measurements and collect information using high-tech equipment for a variety of various projects.
- Analyze survey data and make calculations.
- Draft plans and plot data using computer software.
- Prepare finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, corner records, and other survey reports.
- Sets out reference points on construction activities.
- Participate in the formation and adherence to safety plans on a per project basis.
- Ensure safety is a priority.
- Review field data, reports, and maps to ensure proper QA techniques are used.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
- Skills: Strong working knowledgeable in all aspects of land surveying including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, route surveys, as-built surveys, construction staking, etc. with the ability to read and interpret various types of construction and property documents. Ability to effectively instruct, direct, and lead others in the field. Strong knowledge of field surveying practices and procedures. Familiarity with office surveying practices and procedures.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as a crew chief. Knowledge of field surveying practices and procedures. Proficiency in using surveying instruments such as total stations and GPS.
