About the role

The Credit Underwriter at Genesis Capital evaluates new lending opportunities, performs comprehensive analysis to determine the creditworthiness of borrowers, and manages multiple underwriting projects. Key responsibilities include assessing risk, preparing credit memorandums, conducting market analyses, and presenting findings to Credit Management for review and approval.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate new lending opportunities and borrower creditworthiness
  • Analyze financial strength and loan repayment likelihood/capacity
  • Conduct market analyses and review real estate appraisals
  • Work with Loan Officers and Relationship Managers to obtain due diligence items
  • Present credit memorandums to Credit Management for review and approval
  • Review legal documentation and analyze corporate entity documents
  • Collaborate with Compliance for Anti-Money Laundering/Know Your Customer (AML/KYC) purposes
  • Manage multiple underwriting projects/tasks simultaneously

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 3+ years in Commercial Real Estate banking or private real estate lending, preferably in underwriting, credit analysis, or related fields
  • Experience in construction lending is a plus
  • Knowledge of complex real estate lending and loan structuring
  • Industry knowledge of credit and financial analysis fundamentals, including cash flow analysis, balance sheet analysis, tax returns, profitability, liquidity, solvency analysis, and real estate valuation
  • Financial modeling techniques and preparation of pro-forma financial statements and NOI/DSCR analysis
  • Knowledge of credit underwriting policies, procedures, processes, collateral valuation, and documentation
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database applications for pipeline management

Qualifications

  • Strong underwriting experience and judgment
  • Ability to consolidate information and identify risks
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, presentation, oral, and written communication skills

Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database applications for pipeline management
